General questions

The system

What types of wood do you offer ?

The wood species used are: ash, beech, oak, maple, walnut and pine cembro. But we can go much further and possibly make your bed with your wood.

Why do I need a solid wood bed frame when a slatted frame with 4 feet would suffice ?

To make a good home, you need a good foundation. To make a good bedding it is necessary to start from a stable support, which does not sag. Ott System beds are built to provide a perfectly flat surface under the weight of the slat system, mattress and sleepers.

A well-installed bed is also a place, a symbol, a confidence that is established. A beautiful and good solid wood bed is endearing to become again the friend of one nights, the friend of one sleep.

Can I keep my current slatted base and just change the mattress ?

All bed bases are different. A new mattress will not react in the same way depending on the bed base. It can be too hard or too saggy. We strongly advise to choose the proposed harmony between bed base and the mattress. Futhermore, the core of Ott System being the slat system, keeping another one would not be beneficial.

Why are some people advising to sleep on a hard mattress ?

Neither too soft nor too firm, a well suited mattress will be tonic for the skeleton and soft for the flesh, in order to avoid the changes of positions and the turning of the sleeper.

It is never by sitting on the edge of a mattress or pressing in the corner with the hand that it will be possible to judge the comfort. A mattress may not look firm enough at first touch but be just perfect when lying on it.

Why don’t you offer thick mattresses ?

The thicker the mattress, the less air can pass through to dry it. Thus there is a build-up of moisture that causes a damp bed climate promoting the development of dust mites, bacteria and microscopic fungi inside the mattresses.

The drying cycle of a mattress, in the absence of the sleeper, must be rapid, 3 to 4 hours, since on average the sleeper will return to his bed after 16 hours. The dry climate of the bed will prevent the development of dust mites and other nuisances.

Combien de temps durera mon ensemble literie ?

With minimal maintenance, changing latex after 12 to 15 years, your bed system will be an acquisition for several decades. As the system is modular, it is always possible to change only the wearing parts. For example, it is possible to change the latex of the slat system after 12 years and the one of the mattress core after 15.

The delivery

Who delivers my bed ?

Ott System members take care of the deliveries themselves. Your bed is delivered to your home and is assembled in the room that is supposed to receive it.

Will you take with you the packaging waste once the bed delivered ?

Our goal is to significantly reduce packaging. We deliver the solid wood bed frame protected in movers blankets. The mattress and the slat system are transported in thick organic cotton covers that we reuse.

Pillows and duvets are delivered in bags equipped with zipper that are useful for storing the item when not in use (for winter duvets in summer for example).

We constantly improve in term of waste reduction. To this day, we already saved hundreds of square meters of plastics and cardboard.

General questions

How to avoid snoring ?

If we had a genuine answer to this question we would be making a fortune.

Several tracks can be followed though. By slightly inclining the bed, the head higher than the feet, the breathing may be different. The thickness of the pillow has an important role depending on whether the sleeper is lying on his side or on his back. The evening meals taken too late create a sleeper busy digesting his food which might not be good regarding snoring.
